Surah Nuh — Noah

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ 71:1

Inna arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi an anthir qawmaka min qabli an ya/tiyahum AAathabunaleem

Lo! We sent Noah unto his people (saying): Warn thy people ere the painful doom come unto them.

قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ 71:2

Qala ya qawmi innee lakum natheerunmubeen

He said: O my people! Lo! I am a plain warner unto you

أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ 71:3

Ani oAAbudoo Allaha wattaqoohuwaateeAAoon

(Bidding you): Serve Allah and keep your duty unto Him and obey me,

يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ 71:4

Yaghfir lakum min thunoobikumwayu-akhkhirkum ila ajalin musamman inna ajala Allahiitha jaa la yu-akhkharu law kuntumtaAAlamoon

That He may forgive you somewhat of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Lo! the term of Allah, when it cometh, cannot be delayed, if ye but knew.

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا 71:5

Qala rabbi innee daAAawtu qawmeelaylan wanahara

He said: My Lord! Lo! I have called unto my people night and day

فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا 71:6

Falam yazidhum duAAa-ee illafirara

But all my calling doth but add to their repugnance;

وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا۟ أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا۟ وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ ٱسْتِكْبَارًا 71:7

Wa-innee kullama daAAawtuhumlitaghfira lahum jaAAaloo asabiAAahum fee athanihimwastaghshaw thiyabahum waasarroo wastakbarooistikbara

And lo! whenever I call unto them that Thou mayst pardon them they thrust their fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments and persist (in their refusal) and magnify themselves in pride.

ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا 71:8

Thumma innee daAAawtuhum jihara

And lo! I have called unto them aloud,

ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا 71:9

Thumma innee aAAlantu lahum waasrartu lahumisrara

And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private.

فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا 71:10

Faqultu istaghfiroo rabbakum innahu kanaghaffara

And I have said: Seek pardon of your Lord. Lo! He was ever Forgiving.

يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا 71:11

Yursili assamaa AAalaykummidrara

He will let loose the sky for you in plenteous rain,

وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًا 71:12

Wayumdidkum bi-amwalin wabaneenawayajAAal lakum jannatin wayajAAal lakum anhara

And will help you with wealth and sons, and will assign unto you Gardens and will assign unto you rivers.

مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا 71:13

Ma lakum la tarjoona lillahiwaqara

What aileth you that ye hope not toward Allah for dignity

وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا 71:14

Waqad khalaqakum atwara

When He created you by (divers) stages?

أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا 71:15

Alam taraw kayfa khalaqa AllahusabAAa samawatin tibaqa

See ye not how Allah hath created seven heavens in harmony,

وَجَعَلَ ٱلْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا 71:16

WajaAAala alqamara feehinna nooran wajaAAalaashshamsa siraja

And hath made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp?

وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا 71:17

Wallahu anbatakum mina al-ardinabata

And Allah hath caused you to grow as a growth from the earth,

ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا 71:18

Thumma yuAAeedukum feehawayukhrijukum ikhraja

And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a (new) forthbringing.

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا 71:19

Wallahu jaAAala lakumu al-ardabisata

And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you

لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا 71:20

Litaslukoo minha subulan fijaja

That ye may thread the valley-ways thereof.

قَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًا 71:21

Qala noohun rabbi innahum AAasawneewattabaAAoo man lam yazidhu maluhu wawaladuhu illakhasara

Noah said: My Lord! Lo! they have disobeyed me and followed one whose wealth and children increase him in naught save ruin;

وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا 71:22

Wamakaroo makran kubbara

And they have plotted a mighty plot,

وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا 71:23

Waqaloo la tatharunna alihatakumwala tatharunna waddan wala suwaAAanwala yaghootha wayaAAooqa wanasra

And they have said: Forsake not your gods. Forsake not Wadd, nor Suwa', nor Yaghuth and Ya'uq and Nasr.

وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا۟ كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَـٰلًا 71:24

Waqad adalloo katheeran walatazidi aththalimeena illa dalala

And they have led many astray, and Thou increasest the wrong-doers in naught save error.

مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا۟ فَأُدْخِلُوا۟ نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارًا 71:25

Mimma khatee-atihimoghriqoo faodkhiloo naran falam yajidoo lahum min dooniAllahi ansara

Because of their sins they were drowned, then made to enter a Fire. And they found they had no helpers in place of Allah.

وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا 71:26

Waqala noohun rabbi latathar AAala al-ardi mina alkafireenadayyara

And Noah said: My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers in the land.

إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا۟ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا 71:27

Innaka in tatharhum yudillooAAibadaka wala yalidoo illa fajirankaffara

If Thou shouldst leave them, they will mislead Thy slaves and will beget none save lewd ingrates.

رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا 71:28

Rabbi ighfir lee waliwalidayyawaliman dakhala baytiya mu/minan walilmu/mineena walmu/minatiwala tazidi aththalimeena illatabaran

My Lord! Forgive me and my parents and him who entereth my house believing, and believing men and believing women, and increase not the wrong-doers in aught save ruin.
