Surah Jinn — The Jinn

قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًا 72:1

Qul oohiya ilayya annahu istamaAAanafarun mina aljinni faqaloo inna samiAAnaqur-anan AAajaba

Say (O Muhammad): It is revealed unto me that a company of the Jinn gave ear, and they said: Lo! we have heard a marvellous Qur'an,

يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى ٱلرُّشْدِ فَـَٔامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَآ أَحَدًا 72:2

Yahdee ila arrushdi faamannabihi walan nushrika birabbina ahada

Which guideth unto righteousness, so we believe in it and we ascribe no partner unto our Lord.

وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَـٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَـٰحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا 72:3

Waannahu taAAala jaddu rabbinama ittakhatha sahibatan wala walada

And (we believe) that He - exalted be the glory of our Lord! - hath taken neither wife nor son,

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطًا 72:4

Waannahu kana yaqoolu safeehunaAAala Allahi shatata

And that the foolish one among us used to speak concerning Allah an atrocious lie.

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلْإِنسُ وَٱلْجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا 72:5

Waanna thanannaan lan taqoola al-insu waljinnu AAala Allahikathiba

And lo! we had supposed that humankind and jinn would not speak a lie concerning Allah -

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا 72:6

Waannahu kana rijalun minaal-insi yaAAoothoona birijalin mina aljinni fazadoohumrahaqa

And indeed (O Muhammad) individuals of humankind used to invoke the protection of individuals of the jinn, so that they increased them in revolt against Allah);

وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدًا 72:7

Waannahum thannoo kama thanantuman lan yabAAatha Allahu ahada

And indeed they supposed, even as ye suppose, that Allah would not raise anyone (from the dead) -

وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا 72:8

Waanna lamasna assamaafawajadnaha muli-at harasan shadeedanwashuhuba

And (the Jinn who had listened to the Qur'an said): We had sought the heaven but had found it filled with strong warders and meteors.

وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ ٱلْـَٔانَ يَجِدْ لَهُۥ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا 72:9

Waanna kunna naqAAudu minhamaqaAAida lissamAAi faman yastamiAAi al-anayajid lahu shihaban rasada

And we used to sit on places (high) therein to listen. But he who listeneth now findeth a flame in wait for him;

وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِىٓ أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا 72:10

Waanna la nadree asharrunoreeda biman fee al-ardi am arada bihim rabbuhumrashada

And we know not whether harm is boded unto all who are in the earth, or whether their Lord intendeth guidance for them.

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدًا 72:11

Waanna minna assalihoonawaminna doona thalika kunna tara-iqaqidada

And among us there are righteous folk and among us there are far from that. We are sects having different rules.

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن نُّعْجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُۥ هَرَبًا 72:12

Wanna thanannaan lan nuAAjiza Allaha fee al-ardi walan nuAAjizahuharaba

And we know that we cannot escape from Allah in the earth, nor can we escape by flight.

وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا 72:13

Waanna lamma samiAAnaalhuda amanna bihi faman yu/min birabbihifala yakhafu bakhsan wala rahaqa

And when we heard the guidance, we believed therein, and whoso believeth in his Lord, he feareth neither loss nor oppression.

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا۟ رَشَدًا 72:14

Waanna minna almuslimoonawaminna alqasitoona faman aslama faola-ikataharraw rashada

And there are among us some who have surrendered (to Allah) and there are among us some who are unjust. And whoso hath surrendered to Allah, such have taken the right path purposefully.

وَأَمَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا 72:15

Waama alqasitoona fakanoolijahannama hataba

And as for those who are unjust, they are firewood for hell.

وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا 72:16

Waallawi istaqamoo AAala attareeqatilaasqaynahum maan ghadaqa

If they (the idolaters) tread the right path, We shall give them to drink of water in abundance

لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا 72:17

Linaftinahum feehi waman yuAArid AAanthikri rabbihi yasluk-hu AAathaban saAAada

That We may test them thereby, and whoso turneth away from the remembrance of his Lord; He will thrust him into ever-growing torment.

وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًا 72:18

Waanna almasajida lillahi falatadAAoo maAAa Allahi ahada

And the places of worship are only for Allah, so pray not unto anyone along with Allah.

وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا 72:19

Waannahu lamma qama AAabdu AllahiyadAAoohu kadoo yakoonoona AAalayhi libada

And when the slave of Allah stood up in prayer to Him, they crowded on him, almost stifling.

قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا 72:20

Qul innama adAAoo rabbee walaoshriku bihi ahada

Say (unto them, O Muhammad): I pray unto Allah only, and ascribe unto Him no partner.

قُلْ إِنِّى لَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا 72:21

Qul innee la amliku lakum darranwala rashada

Say: Lo! I control not hurt nor benefit for you.

قُلْ إِنِّى لَن يُجِيرَنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا 72:22

Qul innee lan yujeeranee mina Allahiahadun walan ajida min doonihi multahada

Say: Lo! none can protect me from Allah, nor can I find any refuge beside Him

إِلَّا بَلَـٰغًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا 72:23

Illa balaghan mina Allahiwarisalatihi waman yaAAsi Allahawarasoolahu fa-inna lahu nara jahannama khalideenafeeha abada

(Mine is) but conveyance (of the Truth) from Allah, and His messages; and whoso disobeyeth Allah and His messenger, lo! his is fire of hell, wherein such dwell for ever.

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا 72:24

Hatta itha raaw mayooAAadoona fasayaAAlamoona man adAAafu nasiranwaaqallu AAadada

Till (the day) when they shall behold that which they are promised (they may doubt); but then they will know (for certain) who is weaker in allies and less in multitude.

قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِىٓ أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّىٓ أَمَدًا 72:25

Qul in adree aqareebun ma tooAAadoonaam yajAAalu lahu rabbee amada

Say (O Muhammad, unto the disbelievers): I know not whether that which ye are promised is nigh, or if my Lord hath set a distant term for it.

عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا 72:26

AAalimu alghaybi fala yuthhiruAAala ghaybihi ahada

(He is) the Knower of the Unseen, and He revealeth unto none His secret,

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَسْلُكُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ رَصَدًا 72:27

Illa mani irtada min rasoolinfa-innahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi rasada

Save unto every messenger whom He hath chosen, and then He maketh a guard to go before him and a guard behind him

لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا۟ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عَدَدًۢا 72:28

LiyaAAlama an qad ablaghoo risalatirabbihim waahata bima ladayhim waahsa kullashay-in AAadada

That He may know that they have indeed conveyed the messages of their Lord. He surroundeth all their doings, and He keepeth count of all things.
