عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ 78:1

AAamma yatasaaloon

Whereof do they question one another?

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ 78:2

AAani annaba-i alAAatheem

(It is) of the awful tidings,

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ 78:3

Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoon

Concerning which they are in disagreement.

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ 78:4

Kalla sayaAAlamoon

Nay, but they will come to know!

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ 78:5

Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoon

Nay, again, but they will come to know!

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا 78:6

Alam najAAali al-arda mihada

Have We not made the earth an expanse,

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا 78:7

Waljibala awtada

And the high hills bulwarks?

وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا 78:8

Wakhalaqnakum azwaja

And We have created you in pairs,

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا 78:9

WajaAAalna nawmakum subata

And have appointed your sleep for repose,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا 78:10

WajaAAalna allayla libasa

And have appointed the night as a cloak,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا 78:11

WajaAAalna annaharamaAAasha

And have appointed the day for livelihood.

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا 78:12

Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidada

And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا 78:13

WajaAAalna sirajan wahhaja

And have appointed a dazzling lamp,

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا 78:14

Waanzalna mina almuAAsiratimaan thajjaja

And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water,

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا 78:15

Linukhrija bihi habban wanabata

Thereby to produce grain and plant,

وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا 78:16

Wajannatin alfafa

And gardens of thick foliage.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا 78:17

Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqata

Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time,

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا 78:18

Yawma yunfakhu fee assoorifata/toona afwaja

A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes,

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا 78:19

Wafutihati assamao fakanatabwaba

And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates,

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا 78:20

Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanatsaraba

And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا 78:21

Inna jahannama kanat mirsada

Lo! hell lurketh in ambush,

لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا 78:22

Littagheena maaba

A home for the rebellious.

لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا 78:23

Labitheena feeha ahqaba

They will abide therein for ages.

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا 78:24

La yathooqoona feehabardan wala sharaba

Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا 78:25

Illa hameeman waghassaqa

Save boiling water and a paralysing cold:

جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا 78:26

Jazaan wifaqa

Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds).

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا 78:27

Innahum kanoo la yarjoona hisaba

For lo! they looked not for a reckoning;

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا 78:28

Wakaththaboo bi-ayatinakiththaba

They called Our revelations false with strong denial.

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا 78:29

Wakulla shay-in ahsaynahu kitaba

Everything have We recorded in a Book.

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا 78:30

Fathooqoo falan nazeedakum illaAAathaba

So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment.

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا 78:31

Inna lilmuttaqeena mafaza

Lo! for the duteous is achievement -

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا 78:32

Hada-iqa waaAAnaba

Gardens enclosed and vineyards,

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا 78:33

WakawaAAiba atraba

And voluptuous women of equal age;

وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا 78:34

Waka/san dihaqa

And a full cup.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا 78:35

La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwanwala kiththaba

There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying -

جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا 78:36

Jazaan min rabbika AAataan hisaba

Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment -

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا 78:37

Rabbi assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma arrahmani layamlikoona minhu khitaba

Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse.

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا 78:38

Yawma yaqoomu arroohu walmala-ikatusaffan la yatakallamoona illa man athinalahu arrahmanu waqala sawaba

On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا 78:39

Thalika alyawmu alhaqqu famanshaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi maaba

That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا 78:40

Inna antharnakum AAathabanqareeban yawma yanthuru almaro ma qaddamatyadahu wayaqoolu alkafiru ya laytanee kuntuturaba

Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!"
