Surah Zukhruf — The Ornaments of Gold

حمٓ 43:1

Ha-meem

Ha. Mim.

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ 43:2

Walkitabi almubeen

By the Scripture which maketh plain,

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَٰنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ 43:3

Inna jaAAalnahu qur-ananAAarabiyyan laAAallakum taAAqiloona

Lo! We have appointed it a Lecture, in Arabic that haply ye may understand.

وَإِنَّهُۥ فِىٓ أُمِّ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِىٌّ حَكِيمٌ 43:4

Wa-innahu fee ommi alkitabi ladaynalaAAaliyyun hakeem

And Lo! in the Source of Decrees, which We possess, it is indeed sublime, decisive.

أَفَنَضْرِبُ عَنكُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَ صَفْحًا أَن كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّسْرِفِينَ 43:5

Afanadribu AAankumu aththikrasafhan an kuntum qawman musrifeen

Shall We utterly ignore you because ye are a wanton folk?

وَكَمْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن نَّبِىٍّ فِى ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ 43:6

Wakam arsalna min nabiyyin feeal-awwaleen

How many a prophet did We send among the men of old!

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن نَّبِىٍّ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ 43:7

Wama ya/teehim min nabiyyin illakanoo bihi yastahzi-oon

And never came there unto them a prophet but they used to mock him.

فَأَهْلَكْنَآ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ 43:8

Faahlakna ashadda minhum batshanwamada mathalu al-awwaleen

Then We destroyed men mightier than these in prowess; and the example of the men of old hath gone (before them).

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ خَلَقَهُنَّ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ 43:9

Wala-in saaltahum man khalaqa assamawatiwal-arda layaqoolunna khalaqahunna alAAazeezualAAaleem

And if thou (Muhammad) ask them: Who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely answer: The Mighty, the Knower created them;

ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ مَهْدًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ 43:10

Allathee jaAAala lakumu al-ardamahdan wajaAAala lakum feeha subulan laAAallakum tahtadoon

Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and placed roads for you therein, that haply ye may find your way;

وَٱلَّذِى نَزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍ فَأَنشَرْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَ 43:11

Wallathee nazzala mina assama-imaan biqadarin faansharna bihi baldatan maytan kathalikatukhrajoon

And Who sendeth down water from the sky in (due) measure, and We revive a dead land therewith. Even so will ye be brought forth;

وَٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْفُلْكِ وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ مَا تَرْكَبُونَ 43:12

Wallathee khalaqa al-azwajakullaha wajaAAala lakum mina alfulki wal-anAAamima tarkaboon

He Who created all the pairs, and appointed for you ships and cattle whereupon ye ride.

لِتَسْتَوُۥا۟ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِۦ ثُمَّ تَذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ رَبِّكُمْ إِذَا ٱسْتَوَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ وَتَقُولُوا۟ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُۥ مُقْرِنِينَ 43:13

Litastawoo AAala thuhoorihithumma tathkuroo niAAmata rabbikum itha istawaytumAAalayhi wataqooloo subhana allathee sakhkhara lanahatha wama kunna lahu muqrineen

That ye may mount upon their backs, and may remember your Lord's favour when ye mount thereon, and may say: Glorified be He Who hath subdued these unto us, and we were not capable (of subduing them);

وَإِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ 43:14

Wa-inna ila rabbinalamunqaliboon

And lo! unto our Lord we surely are returning.

وَجَعَلُوا۟ لَهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ جُزْءًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَكَفُورٌ مُّبِينٌ 43:15

WajaAAaloo lahu min AAibadihi juz-aninna al-insana lakafoorun mubeen

And they allot to Him a portion of His bondmen! Lo! man is verily a mere ingrate.

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذَ مِمَّا يَخْلُقُ بَنَاتٍ وَأَصْفَىٰكُم بِٱلْبَنِينَ 43:16

Ami ittakhatha mimma yakhluqubanatin waasfakum bilbaneen

Or chooseth He daughters of all that He hath created, and honoureth He you with sons?

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مَثَلًا ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ 43:17

Wa-itha bushshira ahaduhum bimadaraba lirrahmani mathalan thallawajhuhu muswaddan wahuwa katheem

And if one of them hath tidings of that which he likeneth to the Beneficent One, his countenance becometh black and he is full of inward rage.

أَوَمَن يُنَشَّؤُا۟ فِى ٱلْحِلْيَةِ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلْخِصَامِ غَيْرُ مُبِينٍ 43:18

Awaman yunashshao fee alhilyatiwahuwa fee alkhisami ghayru mubeen

(Liken they then to Allah) that which is bred up in outward show, and in dispute cannot make itself plain?

وَجَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عِبَـٰدُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ إِنَـٰثًا ۚ أَشَهِدُوا۟ خَلْقَهُمْ ۚ سَتُكْتَبُ شَهَـٰدَتُهُمْ وَيُسْـَٔلُونَ 43:19

WajaAAaloo almala-ikata allatheenahum AAibadu arrahmani inathanashahidoo khalqahum satuktabu shahadatuhum wayus-aloon

And they make the angels, who are the slaves of the Beneficent, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded and they will be questioned.

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنَـٰهُم ۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ 43:20

Waqaloo law shaa arrahmanuma AAabadnahum ma lahum bithalika minAAilmin in hum illa yakhrusoon

And they say: If the Beneficent One had (so) willed, we should not have worshipped them. They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do but guess.

أَمْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ كِتَـٰبًا مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ فَهُم بِهِۦ مُسْتَمْسِكُونَ 43:21

Am ataynahum kitabanmin qablihi fahum bihi mustamsikoon

Or have We given them any scripture before (this Qur'an) so that they are holding fast thereto?

بَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم مُّهْتَدُونَ 43:22

Bal qaloo inna wajadna abaanaAAala ommatin wa-inna AAala atharihimmuhtadoon

Nay, for they say only: Lo! we found our fathers following a religion, and we are guided by their footprints.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَآ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم مُّقْتَدُونَ 43:23

Wakathalika ma arsalnamin qablika fee qaryatin min natheerin illa qalamutrafooha inna wajadna abaanaAAala ommatin wa-inna AAala atharihimmuqtadoon

And even so We sent not a warner before thee (Muhammad) into any township but its luxurious ones said: Lo! we found our fathers following a religion, and we are following their footprints.

۞ قَـٰلَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكُم بِأَهْدَىٰ مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمْ عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَكُمْ ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ 43:24

Qala awa law ji/tukum bi-ahdamimma wajadtum AAalayhi abaakum qalooinna bima orsiltum bihi kafiroon

(And the warner) said: What! Even though I bring you better guidance than that ye found your fathers following? They answered: Lo! in what ye bring we are disbelievers.

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ ۖ فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ 43:25

Fantaqamna minhum fanthurkayfa kana AAaqibatu almukaththibeen

So We requited them. Then see the nature of the consequence for the rejecters!

وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّنِى بَرَآءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ 43:26

Wa-ith qala ibraheemuli-abeehi waqawmihi innanee baraon mimma taAAbudoon

And when Abraham said unto his father and his folk: Lo! I am innocent of what ye worship

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى فَإِنَّهُۥ سَيَهْدِينِ 43:27

Illa allathee fataraneefa-innahu sayahdeen

Save Him Who did create me, for He will surely guide me.

وَجَعَلَهَا كَلِمَةًۢ بَاقِيَةً فِى عَقِبِهِۦ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ 43:28

WajaAAalaha kalimatan baqiyatanfee AAaqibihi laAAallahum yarjiAAoon

And he made it a word enduring among his seed, that haply they might return.

بَلْ مَتَّعْتُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ وَرَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ 43:29

Bal mattaAAtu haola-i waabaahumhatta jaahumu alhaqqu warasoolunmubeen

Nay, but I let these and their fathers enjoy life (only) till there should come unto them the Truth and a messenger making plain.

وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ قَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا سِحْرٌ وَإِنَّا بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ 43:30

Walamma jaahumu alhaqquqaloo hatha sihrun wa-inna bihi kafiroon

And now that the Truth hath come unto them they say: This is mere magic, and lo! we are disbelievers therein.

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِّنَ ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ 43:31

Waqaloo lawla nuzzila hathaalqur-anu AAala rajulin mina alqaryatayni AAatheem

And they say: If only this Qur'an had been revealed to some great man of the two towns?

أَهُمْ يَقْسِمُونَ رَحْمَتَ رَبِّكَ ۚ نَحْنُ قَسَمْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ وَرَفَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَـٰتٍ لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا سُخْرِيًّا ۗ وَرَحْمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ 43:32

Ahum yaqsimoona rahmata rabbika nahnuqasamna baynahum maAAeeshatahum fee alhayatiaddunya warafaAAna baAAdahum fawqabaAAdin darajatin liyattakhitha baAAduhumbaAAdan sukhriyyan warahmatu rabbika khayrun mimmayajmaAAoon

Is it they who apportion thy Lord's mercy? We have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them above others in rank that some of them may take labour from others; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than (the wealth) that they amass.

وَلَوْلَآ أَن يَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًا مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ 43:33

Walawla an yakoona annasuommatan wahidatan lajaAAalna liman yakfuru birrahmanilibuyootihim suqufan min fiddatin wamaAAarijaAAalayha yathharoon

And were it not that mankind would have become one community, We might well have appointed, for those who disbelieve in the Beneficent, roofs of silver for their houses and stairs (of silver) whereby to mount,

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ أَبْوَٰبًا وَسُرُرًا عَلَيْهَا يَتَّكِـُٔونَ 43:34

Walibuyootihim abwaban wasururanAAalayha yattaki-oon

And for their houses doors (of silver) and couches of silver whereon to recline,

وَزُخْرُفًا ۚ وَإِن كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَّا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ 43:35

Wazukhrufan wa-in kullu thalika lammamataAAu alhayati addunya wal-akhiratuAAinda rabbika lilmuttaqeen

And ornaments of gold. Yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world. And the Hereafter with your Lord would have been for those who keep from evil.

وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُۥ شَيْطَـٰنًا فَهُوَ لَهُۥ قَرِينٌ 43:36

Waman yaAAshu AAan thikri arrahmaninuqayyid lahu shaytanan fahuwa lahu qareen

And he whose sight is dim to the remembrance of the Beneficent, We assign unto him a devil who becometh his comrade;

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ 43:37

Wa-innahum layasuddoonahum AAani assabeeliwayahsaboona annahum muhtadoon

And lo! they surely turn them from the way of Allah, and yet they deem that they are rightly guided;

حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَنَا قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكَ بُعْدَ ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ فَبِئْسَ ٱلْقَرِينُ 43:38

Hatta itha jaanaqala ya layta baynee wabaynaka buAAda almashriqaynifabi/sa alqareen

Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade!

وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ إِذ ظَّلَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ 43:39

Walan yanfaAAakumu alyawma ith thalamtumannakum fee alAAathabi mushtarikoon

And it profiteth you not this day, because ye did wrong, that ye will be sharers in the doom.

أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ أَوْ تَهْدِى ٱلْعُمْىَ وَمَن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ 43:40

Afaanta tusmiAAu assumma awtahdee alAAumya waman kana fee dalalinmubeen

Canst thou (Muhammad) make the deaf to hear, or canst thou guide the blind or him who is in error manifest?

فَإِمَّا نَذْهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنْهُم مُّنتَقِمُونَ 43:41

Fa-imma nathhabanna bikafa-inna minhum muntaqimoon

And if We take thee away, We surely shall take vengeance on them,

أَوْ نُرِيَنَّكَ ٱلَّذِى وَعَدْنَـٰهُمْ فَإِنَّا عَلَيْهِم مُّقْتَدِرُونَ 43:42

Aw nuriyannaka allathee waAAadnahumfa-inna AAalayhim muqtadiroon

Or (if) We show thee that wherewith We threaten them; for lo! We have complete command of them.

فَٱسْتَمْسِكْ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ 43:43

Fastamsik billatheeoohiya ilayka innaka AAala siratinmustaqeem

So hold thou fast to that which is inspired in thee. Lo! thou art on a right path.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَذِكْرٌ لَّكَ وَلِقَوْمِكَ ۖ وَسَوْفَ تُسْـَٔلُونَ 43:44

Wa-innahu lathikrun laka waliqawmikawasawfa tus-aloon

And lo! it is in truth a Reminder for thee and for thy folk; and ye will be questioned.

وَسْـَٔلْ مَنْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَآ أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ءَالِهَةً يُعْبَدُونَ 43:45

Was-al man arsalna minqablika min rusulina ajaAAalna min dooni arrahmanialihatan yuAAbadoon

And ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before thee: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped beside the Beneficent?

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَقَالَ إِنِّى رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ 43:46

Walaqad arsalna moosa bi-ayatinaila firAAawna wamala-ihi faqala innee rasoolu rabbialAAalameen

And verily We sent Moses with Our revelations unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds.

فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَضْحَكُونَ 43:47

Falamma jaahum bi-ayatinaitha hum minha yadhakoon

But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them.

وَمَا نُرِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ إِلَّا هِىَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أُخْتِهَا ۖ وَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ 43:48

Wama nureehim min ayatin illahiya akbaru min okhtiha waakhathnahum bilAAathabilaAAallahum yarjiAAoon

And every token that We showed them was greater than its sister (token), and We grasped them with the torment, that haply they might turn again.

وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَ ٱلسَّاحِرُ ٱدْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهْتَدُونَ 43:49

Waqaloo ya ayyuha asahiruodAAu lana rabbaka bima AAahida AAindaka innanalamuhtadoon

And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright.

فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ 43:50

Falamma kashafna AAanhumualAAathaba itha hum yankuthoon

But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word.

وَنَادَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى قَوْمِهِۦ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَلَيْسَ لِى مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَـٰذِهِ ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِىٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ 43:51

Wanada firAAawnu fee qawmihi qalaya qawmi alaysa lee mulku misra wahathihial-anharu tajree min tahtee afala tubsiroon

And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern?

أَمْ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى هُوَ مَهِينٌ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ 43:52

Am ana khayrun min hatha allatheehuwa maheenun wala yakadu yubeen

I am surely better than this fellow, who is despicable and can hardly make (his meaning) plain!

فَلَوْلَآ أُلْقِىَ عَلَيْهِ أَسْوِرَةٌ مِّن ذَهَبٍ أَوْ جَآءَ مَعَهُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ مُقْتَرِنِينَ 43:53

Falawla olqiya AAalayhi aswiratun minthahabin aw jaa maAAahu almala-ikatumuqtarineen

Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him?

فَٱسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَ 43:54

Fastakhaffa qawmahu faataAAoohuinnahum kanoo qawman fasiqeen

Thus he persuaded his people to make light (of Moses), and they obeyed him. Lo! they were a wanton folk.

فَلَمَّآ ءَاسَفُونَا ٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ 43:55

Falamma asafoonaintaqamna minhum faaghraqnahum ajmaAAeen

So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one.

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ سَلَفًا وَمَثَلًا لِّلْـَٔاخِرِينَ 43:56

FajaAAalnahum salafan wamathalan lil-akhireen

And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them).

۞ وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوْمُكَ مِنْهُ يَصِدُّونَ 43:57

Walamma duriba ibnu maryamamathalan itha qawmuka minhu yasiddoon

And when the son of Mary is quoted as an example, behold! the folk laugh out,

وَقَالُوٓا۟ ءَأَـٰلِهَتُنَا خَيْرٌ أَمْ هُوَ ۚ مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلًۢا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ 43:58

Waqaloo aalihatunakhayrun am huwa ma daraboohu laka illajadalan bal hum qawmun khasimoon

And say: Are our gods better, or is he? They raise not the objection save for argument. Nay! but they are a contentious folk.

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا عَبْدٌ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ مَثَلًا لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ 43:59

In huwa illa AAabdun anAAamnaAAalayhi wajaAAalnahu mathalan libanee isra-eel

He is nothing but a slave on whom We bestowed favour, and We made him a pattern for the Children of Israel.

وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَا مِنكُم مَّلَـٰٓئِكَةً فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَخْلُفُونَ 43:60

Walaw nashao lajaAAalna minkummala-ikatan fee al-ardi yakhlufoon

And had We willed We could have set among you angels to be viceroys in the earth.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَعِلْمٌ لِّلسَّاعَةِ فَلَا تَمْتَرُنَّ بِهَا وَٱتَّبِعُونِ ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ 43:61

Wa-innahu laAAilmun lissaAAatifala tamtarunna biha wattabiAAooni hathasiratun mustaqeem

And lo! verily there is knowledge of the Hour. So doubt ye not concerning it, but follow Me. This is the right path.

وَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ 43:62

Wala yasuddannakumu ashshaytanuinnahu lakum AAaduwwun mubeen

And let not Satan turn you aside. Lo! he is an open enemy for you.

وَلَمَّا جَآءَ عِيسَىٰ بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ قَالَ قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ وَلِأُبَيِّنَ لَكُم بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى تَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ 43:63

Walamma jaa AAeesa bilbayyinatiqala qad ji/tukum bilhikmati wali-obayyinalakum baAAda allathee takhtalifoona feehi fattaqooAllaha waateeAAoon

When Jesus came with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), he said: I have come unto you with wisdom, and to make plain some of that concerning which ye differ. So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ رَبِّى وَرَبُّكُمْ فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ 43:64

Inna Allaha huwa rabbee warabbukum faAAbudoohuhatha siratun mustaqeem

Lo! Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him. This is a right path.

فَٱخْتَلَفَ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ مِنۢ بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمٍ أَلِيمٍ 43:65

Fakhtalafa al-ahzabumin baynihim fawaylun lillatheena thalamoomin AAathabi yawmin aleem

But the factions among them differed. Then woe unto those who do wrong from the doom of a painful day.

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ 43:66

Hal yanthuroona illa assaAAataan ta/tiyahum baghtatan wahum la yashAAuroon

Await they aught save the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they know not?

ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ 43:67

Al-akhillao yawma-ithin baAAduhumlibaAAdin AAaduwwun illa almuttaqeen

Friends on that day will be foes one to another, save those who kept their duty (to Allah).

يَـٰعِبَادِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ وَلَآ أَنتُمْ تَحْزَنُونَ 43:68

Ya AAibadi la khawfunAAalaykumu alyawma wala antum tahzanoon

O My slaves! For you there is no fear this day, nor is it ye who grieve;

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ 43:69

Allatheena amanoo bi-ayatinawakanoo muslimeen

(Ye) who believed Our revelations and were self-surrendered,

ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ أَنتُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُكُمْ تُحْبَرُونَ 43:70

Odkhuloo aljannata antum waazwajukumtuhbaroon

Enter the Garden, ye and your wives, to be made glad.

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِصِحَافٍ مِّن ذَهَبٍ وَأَكْوَابٍ ۖ وَفِيهَا مَا تَشْتَهِيهِ ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَتَلَذُّ ٱلْأَعْيُنُ ۖ وَأَنتُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ 43:71

Yutafu AAalayhim bisihafinmin thahabin waakwabin wafeeha matashtaheehi al-anfusu watalaththu al-aAAyunu waantum feehakhalidoon

Therein are brought round for them trays of gold and goblets, and therein is all that souls desire and eyes find sweet. And ye are immortal therein.

وَتِلْكَ ٱلْجَنَّةُ ٱلَّتِىٓ أُورِثْتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ 43:72

Watilka aljannatu allatee oorithtumoohabima kuntum taAAmaloon

This is the Garden which ye are made to inherit because of what ye used to do.

لَكُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ مِّنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ 43:73

Lakum feeha fakihatunkatheeratun minha ta/kuloon

Therein for you is fruit in plenty whence to eat.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ 43:74

Inna almujrimeena fee AAathabijahannama khalidoon

Lo! the guilty are immortal in hell's torment.

لَا يُفَتَّرُ عَنْهُمْ وَهُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ 43:75

La yufattaru AAanhum wahum feehimublisoon

It is not relaxed for them, and they despair therein.

وَمَا ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ 43:76

Wama thalamnahumwalakin kanoo humu aththalimeen

We wronged them not, but they it was who did the wrong.

وَنَادَوْا۟ يَـٰمَـٰلِكُ لِيَقْضِ عَلَيْنَا رَبُّكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنَّكُم مَّـٰكِثُونَ 43:77

Wanadaw ya maliku liyaqdiAAalayna rabbuka qala innakum makithoon

And they cry: O master! Let thy Lord make an end of us. He saith: Lo! here ye must remain.

لَقَدْ جِئْنَـٰكُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ 43:78

Laqad ji/nakum bilhaqqiwalakinna aktharakum lilhaqqi karihoon

We verily brought the Truth unto you, but ye were, most of you, averse to the Truth.

أَمْ أَبْرَمُوٓا۟ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّا مُبْرِمُونَ 43:79

Am abramoo amran fa-inna mubrimoon

Or do they determine any thing (against the Prophet)? Lo! We (also) are determining.

أَمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّا لَا نَسْمَعُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَىٰهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَرُسُلُنَا لَدَيْهِمْ يَكْتُبُونَ 43:80

Am yahsaboona anna lanasmaAAu sirrahum wanajwahum bala warusulunaladayhim yaktuboon

Or deem they that We cannot hear their secret thoughts and private confidences? Nay, but Our envoys, present with them, do record.

قُلْ إِن كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ وَلَدٌ فَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلْعَـٰبِدِينَ 43:81

Qul in kana lirrahmaniwaladun faana awwalu alAAabideen

Say (O Muhammad): If the Beneficent One hath a son, then, I shall be first among the worshippers. (But there is no son).

سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ 43:82

Subhana rabbi assamawatiwal-ardi rabbi alAAarshi AAamma yasifoon

Glorified be the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne, from that which they ascribe (unto Him)!

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ 43:83

Fatharhum yakhoodoowayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allatheeyooAAadoon

So let them flounder (in their talk) and play until they meet the Day which they are promised.

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِلَـٰهٌ وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَـٰهٌ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ 43:84

Wahuwa allathee fee assama-iilahun wafee al-ardi ilahun wahuwa alhakeemualAAaleem

And He it is Who in the heaven is Allah, and in the earth Allah. He is the Wise, the Knower.

وَتَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ 43:85

Watabaraka allathee lahu mulkuassamawati wal-ardi wamabaynahuma waAAindahu AAilmu assaAAatiwa-ilayhi turjaAAoon

And blessed be He unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and with Whom is knowledge of the Hour, and unto Whom ye will be returned.

وَلَا يَمْلِكُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَ إِلَّا مَن شَهِدَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ 43:86

Wala yamliku allatheenayadAAoona min doonihi ashshafaAAata illaman shahida bilhaqqi wahum yaAAlamoon

And those unto whom they cry instead of Him possess no power of intercession, saving him who beareth witness unto the Truth knowingly.

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ 43:87

Wala-in saaltahum man khalaqahumlayaqoolunna Allahu faanna yu/fakoon

And if thou ask them who created them, they will surely say: Allah. How then are they turned away?

وَقِيلِهِۦ يَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ 43:88

Waqeelihi ya rabbi inna haola-iqawmun la yu/minoon

And he saith: O my Lord! Lo! these are a folk who believe not.

فَٱصْفَحْ عَنْهُمْ وَقُلْ سَلَـٰمٌ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ 43:89

Fasfah AAanhum waqulsalamun fasawfa yaAAlamoon

Then bear with them (O Muhammad) and say: Peace. But they will come to know.
