Surah Hijr — The Rocky Tract

الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ 15:1

Alif-lam-ra tilka ayatualkitabi waqur-anin mubeen

Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading.

رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ 15:2

Rubama yawaddu allatheenakafaroo law kanoo muslimeen

It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims.

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ 15:3

Tharhum ya/kuloo wayatamattaAAoowayulhihimu al-amalu fasawfa yaAAlamoon

Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know!

وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ 15:4

Wama ahlakna min qaryatin illawalaha kitabun maAAloom

And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it.

مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ 15:5

Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon

No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind.

وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ 15:6

Waqaloo ya ayyuha allatheenuzzila AAalayhi aththikru innaka lamajnoon

And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman!

لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ 15:7

Law ma ta/teena bilmala-ikatiin kunta mina assadiqeen

Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful?

مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ 15:8

Ma nunazzilu almala-ikata illabilhaqqi wama kanoo ithan munthareen

We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ 15:9

Inna nahnu nazzalna aththikrawa-inna lahu lahafithoon

Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian.

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ 15:10

Walaqad arsalna min qablika feeshiyaAAi al-awwaleen

We verily sent (messengers) before thee among the factions of the men of old.

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ 15:11

Wama ya/teehim min rasoolin illakanoo bihi yastahzi-oon

And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him.

كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ 15:12

Kathalika naslukuhu fee quloobialmujrimeen

Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty:

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ 15:13

La yu/minoona bihi waqad khalatsunnatu al-awwaleen

They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before.

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ 15:14

Walaw fatahna AAalayhim babanmina assama-i fathalloo feehiyaAArujoon

And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it,

لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَـٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ 15:15

Laqaloo innama sukkirat absarunabal nahnu qawmun mashooroon

They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched.

وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ 15:16

Walaqad jaAAalna fee assama-iburoojan wazayyannaha linnathireen

And verily in the heaven we have set mansions of the stars, and We have beautified it for beholders.

وَحَفِظْنَـٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ 15:17

Wahafithnahamin kulli shaytanin rajeem

And We have guarded it from every outcast devil,

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ 15:18

Illa mani istaraqa assamAAafaatbaAAahu shihabun mubeen

Save him who stealeth the hearing, and them doth a clear flame pursue.

وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ 15:19

Wal-arda madadnahawaalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatnafeeha min kulli shay-in mawzoon

And the earth have We spread out, and placed therein firm hills, and caused each seemly thing to grow therein.

وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَـٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ 15:20

WajaAAalna lakum feeha maAAayishawaman lastum lahu biraziqeen

And we have given unto you livelihoods therein, and unto those for whom ye provide not.

وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ 15:21

Wa-in min shay-in illa AAindanakhaza-inuhu wama nunazziluhu illa biqadarinmaAAloom

And there is not a thing but with Us are the stores thereof. And we send it not down save in appointed measure.

وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَـٰزِنِينَ 15:22

Waarsalna arriyaha lawaqihafaanzalna mina assama-i maanfaasqaynakumoohu wama antum lahu bikhazineen

And We send the winds fertilising, and cause water to descend from the sky, and give it you to drink. It is not ye who are the holders of the store thereof.

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ 15:23

Wa-inna lanahnu nuhyeewanumeetu wanahnu alwarithoon

Lo! and it is We, even We, Who quicken and give death, and We are the Inheritor.

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ 15:24

Walaqad AAalimna almustaqdimeenaminkum walaqad AAalimna almusta/khireen

And verily We know the eager among you and verily We know the laggards.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ 15:25

Wa-inna rabbaka huwa yahshuruhuminnahu hakeemun AAaleem

Lo! thy Lord will gather them together. Lo! He is Wise, Aware.

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ 15:26

Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsalsalin min hama-in masnoon

Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered,

وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ 15:27

Waljanna khalaqnahumin qablu min nari assamoom

And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire.

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَـٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ 15:28

Wa-ith qala rabbuka lilmala-ikatiinnee khaliqun basharan min salsalin min hama-inmasnoon

And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered,

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِينَ 15:29

Fa-itha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehimin roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideen

So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him.

فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ 15:30

Fasajada almala-ikatu kulluhumajmaAAoon

So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together

إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ 15:31

Illa ibleesa aba an yakoonamaAAa assajideen

Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate.

قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ 15:32

Qala ya ibleesu ma lakaalla takoona maAAa assajideen

He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate?

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ 15:33

Qala lam akun li-asjuda libasharinkhalaqtahu min salsalin min hama-in masnoon

He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered!

قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ 15:34

Qala fakhruj minhafa-innaka rajeem

He said: Then go thou forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ 15:35

Wa-inna AAalayka allaAAnata ila yawmiaddeen

And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment.

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ 15:36

Qala rabbi faanthirneeila yawmi yubAAathoon

He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised.

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ 15:37

Qala fa-innaka mina almunthareen

He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ 15:38

Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloom

Till the Day of appointed time.

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ 15:39

Qala rabbi bima aghwaytaneelaozayyinanna lahum fee al-ardi walaoghwiyannahumajmaAAeen

He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one,

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ 15:40

Illa AAibadaka minhumualmukhlaseen

Save such of them as are Thy perfectly devoted slaves.

قَالَ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ 15:41

Qala hatha siratunAAalayya mustaqeem

He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me:

إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ 15:42

Inna AAibadee laysa laka AAalayhimsultanun illa mani ittabaAAaka mina alghaween

Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee,

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ 15:43

Wa-inna jahannama lamawAAiduhum ajmaAAeen

And lo! for all such, hell will be the promised place.

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ 15:44

Laha sabAAatu abwabin likullibabin minhum juz-on maqsoom

It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ 15:45

Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwaAAuyoon

Lo! those who ward off (evil) are among gardens and watersprings.

ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ 15:46

Odkhulooha bisalamin amineen

(And it is said unto them): Enter them in peace, secure.

وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ 15:47

WanazaAAna ma fee sudoorihimmin ghillin ikhwanan AAala sururin mutaqabileen

And We remove whatever rancour may be in their breasts. As brethren, face to face, (they rest) on couches raised.

لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ 15:48

La yamassuhum feeha nasabunwama hum minha bimukhrajeen

Toil cometh not unto them there, nor will they be expelled from thence.

۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ 15:49

Nabbi/ AAibadee annee anaalghafooru arraheem

Announce, (O Muhammad) unto My slaves that verily I am the Forgiving, the Merciful,

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ 15:50

Waanna AAathabee huwa alAAathabual-aleem

And that My doom is the dolorous doom.

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ 15:51

Wanabbi/hum AAan dayfi ibraheem

And tell them of Abraham's guests,

إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ 15:52

Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloosalaman qala inna minkum wajiloon

(How) when they came in unto him, and said: Peace. He said: Lo! we are afraid of you.

قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ 15:53

Qaloo la tawjal innanubashshiruka bighulamin AAaleem

They said: Be not afraid! Lo! we bring thee good tidings of a boy possessing wisdom.

قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ 15:54

Qala abashshartumoonee AAalaan massaniya alkibaru fabima tubashshiroon

He said: Bring ye me good tidings (of a son) when old age hath overtaken me? Of what then can ye bring good tidings?

قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَ 15:55

Qaloo bashsharnaka bilhaqqifala takun mina alqaniteen

They said: We bring thee good tidings in truth. So be not thou of the despairing.

قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ 15:56

Qala waman yaqnatu min rahmatirabbihi illa addalloon

He said: And who despaireth of the mercy of his Lord save those who are astray?

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ 15:57

Qala fama khatbukumayyuha almursaloon

He said: And afterward what is your business, O ye messengers (of Allah)?

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ 15:58

Qaloo inna orsilna ilaqawmin mujrimeen

They said: We have been sent unto a guilty folk,

إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ 15:59

Illa ala lootin innalamunajjoohum ajmaAAeen

(All) save the family of Lot. Them we shall deliver every one,

إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ 15:60

Illa imraatahu qaddarna innahalamina alghabireen

Except his wife, of whom We had decreed that she should be of those who stay behind.

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ 15:61

Falamma jaa ala lootinalmursaloon

And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot,

قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ 15:62

Qala innakum qawmun munkaroon

He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me).

قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَـٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ 15:63

Qaloo bal ji/naka bimakanoo feehi yamtaroon

They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing,

وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ 15:64

Waataynaka bilhaqqiwa-inna lasadiqoon

And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers.

فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ 15:65

Faasri bi-ahlika biqitAAin minaallayli wattabiAA adbarahum wala yaltafitminkum ahadun wamdoo haythutu/maroon

So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded.

وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ 15:66

Waqadayna ilayhi thalikaal-amra anna dabira haola-i maqtooAAunmusbiheen

And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn.

وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ 15:67

Wajaa ahlu almadeenati yastabshiroon

And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals).

قَالَ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ 15:68

Qala inna haola-i dayfeefala tafdahoon

He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not!

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ 15:69

Wattaqoo Allaha walatukhzoon

And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not!

قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ 15:70

Qaloo awa lam nanhaka AAani alAAalameen

They said; Have we not forbidden you from (entertaining) anyone?

قَالَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَـٰعِلِينَ 15:71

Qala haola-i banateein kuntum faAAileen

He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so).

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ 15:72

LaAAamruka innahum lafee sakratihimyaAAmahoona

By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death.

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ 15:73

Faakhathat-humu assayhatumushriqeen

Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise.

فَجَعَلْنَا عَـٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ 15:74

FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilahawaamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan minsijjeel

And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ 15:75

Inna fee thalika laayatinlilmutawassimeen

Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs.

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ 15:76

Wa-innaha labisabeelin muqeem

And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ 15:77

Inna fee thalika laayatanlilmu/mineen

Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers.

وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَـٰلِمِينَ 15:78

Wa-in kana as-habual-aykati lathalimeen

And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers.

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ 15:79

Fantaqamna minhum wa-innahumalabi-imamin mubeen

So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see.

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ 15:80

Walaqad kaththaba as-habualhijri almursaleen

And the dwellers in Al-Hijr denied (Our) messengers.

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ 15:81

Waataynahum ayatinafakanoo AAanha muAArideen

And we gave them Our revelations, but they were averse to them.

وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ 15:82

Wakanoo yanhitoona mina aljibalibuyootan amineen

And they used to hew out dwellings from the hills, (wherein they dwelt) secure.

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ 15:83

Faakhathat-humu assayhatumusbiheen

But the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the morning hour,

فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ 15:84

Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanooyaksiboon

And that which they were wont to count as gain availed them not.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ 15:85

Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma illabilhaqqi wa-inna assaAAata laatiyatunfasfahi assafhaaljameel

We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them save with truth, and lo! the Hour is surely coming. So forgive, (O Muhammad), with a gracious forgiveness.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ 15:86

Inna rabbaka huwa alkhallaqualAAaleem

Lo! Thy Lord! He is the All-Wise Creator.

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ 15:87

Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan minaalmathanee walqur-ana alAAatheem

We have given thee seven of the oft-repeated (verses) and the great Qur'an.

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ 15:88

La tamuddanna AAaynayka ila mamattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum wala tahzanAAalayhim wakhfid janahaka lilmu/mineen

Strain not thine eyes toward that which We cause some wedded pairs among them to enjoin, and be not grieved on their account, and lower thy wing (in tenderness) for the believers.

وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ 15:89

Waqul innee ana annatheerualmubeen

And say: Lo! I, even I, am a plain warner,

كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ 15:90

Kama anzalna AAalaalmuqtasimeen

Such as We send down for those who make division,

ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ 15:91

Allatheena jaAAaloo alqur-anaAAideen

Those who break the Qur'an into parts.

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ 15:92

Fawarabbika lanas-alannahum ajmaAAeen

Them, by thy Lord, We shall question, every one,

عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ 15:93

AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloon

Of what they used to do.

فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ 15:94

FasdaAA bima tu/maruwaaAArid AAani almushrikeen

So proclaim that which thou art commanded, and withdraw from the idolaters.

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَـٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ 15:95

Inna kafaynaka almustahzi-een

Lo! We defend thee from the scoffers,

ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ 15:96

Allatheena yajAAaloona maAAa Allahiilahan akhara fasawfa yaAAlamoon

Who set some other god along with Allah. But they will come to know.

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ 15:97

Walaqad naAAlamu annaka yadeequ sadrukabima yaqooloon

Well know We that thy bosom is oppressed by what they say,

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ 15:98

Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wakunmina assajideen

But hymn the praise of thy Lord, and be of those who make prostration (unto Him).

وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ 15:99

WaAAbud rabbaka hattaya/tiyaka alyaqeen

And serve thy Lord till the Inevitable cometh unto thee.
